Taking control of your hygiene and health for Covid-19

The levels of anxiety, uncertainty, panic are slowly building to a crescendo. Before we reach the breaking point it is time to stop.

Truly stop, take a deep breath and look around you. Ask yourself a simple question, what can I do? Don’t ask this question with panic or fear in your voice, slowly ask the question and be quiet.

There is a list of things people can do to care for themselves, their family, loved ones, friends, and community. When you stop, look around and see what you can do, it takes your mind off panic and puts you in charge. Join all the people who are participating in a positive outcome to the best of their ability. Be with the group that is moving forward not stuck in fear. Who are they and where are they? There are thousands and millions of people around the world. Yes, you are a global citizen and you matter. Our outlet for many right now is social media.

The information given by agencies who know what they are talking about is important.

Let's go through the basics of hygiene:

  • Washing your hands. If we have heard this once, we have heard it a thousand times. There is a reason, it works. .

  • General daily bathing.

  • Washing your clothes, this is general hygiene again and must be practiced on a regular basis.

  • Cleaning your home. Whether it is a studio apartment or a 15 bedroom manor home, it needs to be cleaned. Parts of the house are cleaned daily or weekly.  Please remember to wipe down surfaces during and after your food preparation. When choosing disinfects, consider the environment.

  • Have shoes that are outdoor shoes and leave them on a tray before entering the house. Change your outdoor shoes to indoor shoes or socks before entering your home. We never know what we have walked on while out and about.

  • Light switches need a wipe down as well as doorknobs. It's a simple step to add to your routine, every few days..

  • Don’t forget to clean your car. The steering wheel and door handles require a wipe down as well as the  seats where you have placed your groceries.

  • Social Distancing. This is one of the most important steps you can take. This keeps you safe and keeps others safe. Please stay home.

These practices can also help in decreasing common colds and flues that happen every year. I am hopeful that many people will raise their awareness to continue these practices for the years ahead. Check your country's Government Health websites for an extensive list of recommendations and guidelines for the current Covid-19 outbreak.

Small changes have lasting results for your health:

  • Keeping processed foods at a minimum. For all the TV dinners that have been purchased and sold out, this is a wonderful time to change to fresh food. If you can read you can cook. Follow the steps in basic recipes. There are thousands if not millions of Youtube videos to watch, that will guide you step by step guidance on how to cook, or look up a recipe.  Check my website for recipes that will be frequently updated. Perhaps leave Coq au Vin or Beef Wellington for the more advanced cooks if you are just starting out. Fresh vegetables and protein (meat, fish, chicken or legumes for vegetarians), will help your overall health not only now but in the future. While most people are in a stay and place situation, no better time than right now to start cooking.  As always, decrease sugar.

  • Exercise at home. There is no excuse, yoga online, stretches, lunges, sit ups, squats etc., etc If you are one of the many people that has a bike or treadmill in the spare room or basement,  now would be a good time to get moving.

  • Use supplements and herbal tinctures to boost your immune system. I want to be very clear about the fact that supplements and herbal tinctures will not stop viruses. These are preventative measures that complement healthy eating, exercise and hygiene for overall wellness. I’m sharing what some of the measures that I take each day to work on my health. I make sure my Vit D and Vit K combination is taken daily as I live in a very cold snowy part of the world right now with very little sunshine. Calcium at night along with a supplement for my bones.  I take a supplement for immunity that is a mushroom complex. I have taken that for years and is something I do for my immune system in general. I have on hand Goldenseal tincture for when colds and flus are around just in case I need a boost to fight an infection. I drink Valerian or Chamomile tea to help me sleep when needed, along with meditation at night. I eat a seasonal diet of organic vegetables, grains, protein, and some fruit. Most of my food is cooked as my personal belief is that it is better for me and my digestive system. I have taught cooking for many years and I have helped people understand that being in the kitchen is a joy. I bought a heart shaped spoon when I lived in the UK and love using this when I cook. I’m a true believer in how your attitude affects the food you are preparing for your overall health.

If you would like to know more about the immune boost, I will send you a link if you live in the USA. For all other countries please email and I will discuss how it can be obtained.

If you require help in getting a plan organized for yourself in these unusual times please contact me. I use Skype, Zoom, and FaceTime for appointments.

Sometimes we have to do what is right, not what is easy. Stay safe.

Health and Happiness always,
